Believer Beware

I hadn't thought of Mike Warnke in a long time, until I read a recent post at Unreasonable Faith.

I read The Satan Seller growing up. Listened to Bob Larson and a few other speakers eager to tell teenagers how rock music leads to Satanism or was just plain bad for you (twice during my youth I tossed all of my rock music). I believed the reappearing Ouija board stories (even thought my father once threw one away that never came back). Only one adult during that time had anything critical to say: my geometry teacher, who thought that backward masking was rubbish.

Should have listened to him.

I remember Queen's "Another one bites the dust" as supposedly saying "We decide to smoke marijuana" when played backward. Check out the guitarist, Brian May's Wikipedia page.

Never knew he was a drug-free astrophysicist! Just think what he could have accomplished had he really sold his soul to the devil!

Ahhhhhh..... the memories.
They taught us all three of those things too.

Ozzy, Kiss (Kings in Satan's Service), they even told me John Denver was in on it.

I actually went to a Bob Larson seminar on a lovely Friday night. I was in 8th grade. He scared me to death. Played the Ghostbuster's theme, turned out all the lights, it was scary. I smile now though.

Think of all the good music we missed as a kid.

Ah, yes, Mike Warnke. Like most Evangelicals, I fell for his story hook-line-and-sinker. And then Cornerstone Magazine exposed him. Big time.

Talented comedian. Horrible truth-teller.
